There are a couple ways to avoid getting ripped off by a carpet cleaner.
When you’re getting quotes over the phone ask:
“Do you charge extra for spots or heavily soiled areas?”
“Is there a trip or a fuel charge?”
“Are there any other charges?”
“Is this the final price or an estimate?”
“Will you send me the quote in writing (email)?”
“Can I make out the check for that amount before you get here?”
Once you happy with all those answers and they come to your home you can walk them through the areas you want cleaned and tell the technician, “I’ve already made out the check for what I was quoted (but do not give it to them yet.) Please let me know when you’re done.”
Hopefully this is helpful in avoiding carpet cleaning rip offs and carpet cleaning scams.
Most consumers are more concerned about how much they are quoted than what the carpet cleaners are doing to their carpet. We completely understand budgeting, but consumers should be more concerned with what is being put into their carpet then what kind of “deal” they are getting. They are usually better off not getting the carpet cleaned at all because a lot of the time the carpets end up looking worse then they did before they were cleaned.
The carpets tend to get dark, discolored and dingy or spots “reappear” because the carpet cleaner uses soapy for foamy detergents or cleaners that leave a sticky residue. The sticky residue causes dust, dirt and debris to stick to it. And cleaning spots with any kind of soapy/foamy spot cleaner will cause the same problem. The two ways to avoid the sticky residue is 1) Don’t use a soapy spot cleaner. You can test them before you they are purchased. Shake up the bottle and if you hear, feel or see it foam up…it’s soapy! 2) Rinse the soapy out of the carpet. It can take up to sixteen passes with an extraction machine “rinsing” to get all the soap out.
